Josh Proctor was a four-star prospect and a member of the 2018 ESPN 300. In addition to playing safety, Proctor also lined up at wide receiver for Owasso and was a member of the school’s basketball team. During his senior year, he was rated as the nation’s no. 7 safety, and he was selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American game. Proctor eventually committed to Ohio State over several other Division One offers.
Proctor appeared in 9 games during his true freshman year in 2018. He played primarily on special teams and was credited with 1 tackle during the season. During his sophomore season in 2019, he picked off a pass in week one against Florida Atlantic, but only played sparingly the remainder of the season.
In 2020, Proctor played in 7 games and tallied 20 tackles and 1 interception. In the Big 10 Championship Game, he had 4 tackles, 1 pass defended and 1 interception against Northwestern.
During a week 2 game against Oregon in 2021, Proctor suffered a fractured leg and missed the rest of the season. He was just settling into the starting role and had already collected 10 tackles in parts of two games for the Buckeyes.
In 2022, he came back from the leg injury and played in 11 games for Ohio State, including 4 starts. He finished the season with 21 tackles and 1 sack. Proctor, in year 6, finally became the sole starter safety and had a career high 47 tackles. He also had 8 passes defended and returned his only interception for a touchdown.
In 2023, he played in 11 games and had 47 tackles, 4 TFL and 1 interception.
