Kamari Ramsey attended Sierra Canyon School, located in Los Angeles, California, where he was ranked the No. 10 safety in the nation by ESPN and No. 14 by 247Sports. He was named a 2022 Polynesian Bowl All-Star and was rated a four-star recruit as a high school senior.
After initially committing to Stanford University, Ramsey flipped his commitment to play for the UCLA Bruins. During Ramsey's first collegiate season in 2022, he used the season to redshirt, playing in just four games, totaling six tackles. In the 2023 season, Ramsey notched 40 tackles with 2.5 being for a loss, five pass deflections, and an interception, while allowing just eleven receptions. After the conclusion of the 2023 season, Ramsey decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal and transfer to USC.
Strengths
Kamari Ramsey is an athletic safety who plays with the fluidity of a cornerback. In coverage schemes, he has the range to make plays sideline to sideline, and he is an aggressive tackler who takes solid angles to the ball. He's a hard hitter who drives through the ball carrier and has the instincts and ability to read routes and plays before they transpire. He is effective in man-to-man coverage and can be lined up against the slot receivers and or the more talented tight ends.
Ramsey is as technically sound as any defensive back in this draft. He can go from his backpedal into his top speed in the wink of an eye and mirrors receivers well. And he showed character after forgoing the 2024 draft and returning to USC to compete for a playoff spot when most expected him to leave. He will do well in one-on-one interviews.
Weaknesses
Ramsey is ultra-talented. However, he needs to improve his ball tracking skills and make the most of his positioning. He is much stronger in man-to-man coverage, as he has issues with patience in zone coverage.
Conclusion
Ramsey is a superior athlete for the safety position. Ramsey's man-to-man ability and tackling skills should have him drafted late day two.
Draft Nation sees a lot of similarities between Kamari Ramsey and former Alabama safety Xavier McKinney. McKinney is an aggressive tackler who is athletic enough to cover speedy slot receivers. Ramsey is a mirror image of McKinney and if he can improve his zone coverage play, he can climb into the second round of next year’s draft.
