South Carolina signal-caller LaNorris Sellers emerged last season as one of the most talented NFL prospects in not just the SEC, but all of college football. Sellers took a redshirt for the 2023 season, holding the proverbial clipboard for future NFL quarterback Spencer Rattler at the time. But in 2024, he stepped in as a starter, showcasing his impressive arm, size, and ability.

In his first full year, Sellers threw for nearly 2,600 yards with 18 touchdowns. He was not just a threat in the pocket, but also flashed his running ability, racking up over 600 yards on the ground for the Gamecocks. In today’s NFL game, dual-threat quarterbacks are coveted, and Sellers has a chance to make his case to be the next great one to emerge from the college ranks.

Strengths

Sellers is built for the NFL game. He’s 6′3″, 240 lbs., and has both high-end arm strength and the athleticism to beat defenses with his legs. He throws a great deep ball and can make all of the professional throws necessary to be a starter in the league.

He’s young, but he demonstrates a high football IQ and a knack for processing information quickly as plays develop in front of him. Teams will like this about him, and for someone who was a true underclassman, he has room for growth. The upcoming season will determine how Sellers stacks up among the first-round graded quarterbacks heading into the draft next April.

Weaknesses

Sellers needs to learn that every throw doesn’t have to be a fastball. If he uses this upcoming season to develop touch on his passes, he will shoot up the war room draft boards. He also needs to learn to throw the ball away when there’s nothing there. Some will see his unwillingness to give up on a play as a positive, but some coaches will want to see him mature in his decision-making.

Lastly, Sellers will need to prove during his interviews at the NFL Combine that he can handle pro schemes, but to be fair, that could be said of many college quarterbacks these days.

Conclusion

LaNorris Sellers enters the 2025 NCAA season ready to put a stamp on his first-round status. If he matures and performs well, he could slot in as the second quarterback off of next year’s board behind Arch Manning of Texas. He’s got the tools and talent to be elite at the next level, and he needs to use this season to put it all together.
