Fantasy Scramble 2026: Trade Deadline

Unscrambling Fantasy Impact of the NFL Trade Deadline

Marvin Harrison Jr. already got his change of scenery. The Colts have dealt two foundational pieces along the offensive and defensive lines. Injuries across the league have shattered dreams and opened win-now windows for contenders. Meanwhile, the 2027 NFL Draft features prospects worth acquiring additional draft capital to pursue.

With the NFL trade deadline approaching Nov. 10, let's break down the key fantasy football names who could be impacted.

Jonathan Taylor

The Indianapolis Colts have had an identity crisis for a few years under Shane Steichen, but it became crystal clear that changes for the Colts will be swift and brutal.

The team dismissed General Manager Chris Ballard and traded away two franchise-caliber trench players, Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner. The Colts fell to 2-6 after being embarrassed at Jacksonville in Week 8.

Taylor has reportedly garnered interest from the Packers, Seahawks, Bengals, Broncos and Vikings on a potential deal. His wife has also taken to social media to express her frustration with the uncertain situation.

The last comparable trade of a back of Taylor’s caliber was Christian McCaffrey in 2022. The Panthers dealt McCaffrey for a 2023 second-, third-, and fourth-round pick, along with a 2024 fifth-round pick.

Ken Walker III signed with the Chiefs in free agency and quickly emerged as one of the NFL's top running backs during the opening weeks of the season. His early success in a new situation gives a glimpse of what Taylor brings with a change of scenery.

Taylor has historically been more consistent than Walker. So the right trade can provide significant upside for the team that acquires the former Wisconsin star.

Brian Thomas Jr.

If not for Marvin Harrison Jr.’s shortcomings in Arizona, Brian Thomas Jr. would top the list of potential wide receiver busts from the 2024 draft class. But make no mistake, Thomas has earned the label with his own shortcomings.

Thomas’ problems are twofold. First, he drops the ball too much. Tied second in 2025 with 10 drops, his four drops on 22 targets in 2026 have come at times when he could have re-emerged as the X receiver in the Jaguars offense but didn’t seize the opportunity.

Second, dive deeper into the numbers, and he’s one of the great smoke-and-mirrors players of the last few years. Despite his rookie breakout, his rapport with Trevor Lawrence has been entirely underwhelming.

Over nine games with Lawrence at the helm in 2024, Thomas had 33 catches, 580 yards, and 5 touchdowns. That’s a 17-game pace of 63 catches and 1,100 yards. While beyond respectable output, it doesn’t foreshadow elite-receiver volume.

Mac Jones, in just eight games, peppered Thomas to the tune of 54 catches, 702 yards, and 5 touchdowns. That projects to 114 catches for 1,491 yards over a 17-game pace.

Several Jaguars have emerged as bigger priorities in Liam Coen’s offense than Thomas Jr. in 2026. Once thought of as the future primary option, Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers have cemented themselves as the top two wide receivers for Trevor Lawrence.

The team also put out a promo styled after the movie Weapons before the Week 8 game that featured Jaguars notably excluding Thomas Jr. among the group of pass catchers. That only adds to the speculation.

The Chiefs, Steelers and Raiders have emerged as potential landing spots. However, given James Gladstone's roots in the NFC West, the Rams, 49ers and Seahawks are also worth monitoring as potential trade destinations.

The Texans acquired Harrison Jr. and a 2027 sixth-round pick for a ’27 second- and a seventh-round pick. Thomas should certainly warrant a third.

With DaVon Hamilton injured for the rest of the 2026 season, a team with capital to help the Jaguars’ run defense should be prioritized. Jacksonville is in position to win now in Liam Coen’s second season.

George Pickens

Pickens has been an under-the-radar name for a few weeks. Pickens was arguably the Dallas Cowboys’ best wide receiver last season. This year, he’s been roughly two-thirds as productive as CeeDee Lamb. Lamb is sensational, but Pickens is a completely different type of receiver who can thrive as a bigger body outside the numbers.

Pickens is playing the 2026 season on a franchise tag worth over $27 million. The Cowboys will have a difficult salary-cap situation in 2027 that does not bode well for re-signing the 25-year-old playmaker.

With a defense in absolute shambles, just recently giving up 27 second-half points in the team’s Week 8 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Dallas should prioritize its defensive personnel over an offense that can function with above-average depth.

The Cowboys absolutely should jump on an opportunity to improve defensive personnel should Pickens warrant the kind of return they seek. Jerry and Stephen Jones have said they aren’t shopping him, but Dallas is 3-5 in a still winnable NFC East. If Pickens leaves the team in 2027, getting compensation now is much more favorable than losing him with no return.

Though immaturity concerns from his time in Pittsburgh and some flare-ups in Dallas are credible, the 49ers, Chiefs and Bills could certainly use a big-bodied receiver with a catching radius that gives quarterbacks a downfield target.

Josh Downs

Josh Downs requested a trade on Oct. 28, and his tenure with the Colts has been inconsistent. Much of that is due to the team’s inability to create offense without a complementary downfield presence. A change is imperative for the 25-year-old North Carolina product because Shane Steichen hasn’t gotten enough out of him.

Yes, he leads the Colts in receiving, but his 330 receiving yards rank 48th in the league.

As redundant as it sounds, the Chiefs would also be a great destination for Downs. They need reliable pass catchers who can separate. Rashee Rice has struggled to stay on the field, Xavier Worthy has significantly underwhelmed as a former first-round pick, and Travis Kelce is getting older. Kansas City has also established a strong running-game presence with bell-cow back Ken Walker III.

Downs could give Patrick Mahomes another reliable underneath target who can create separation and make plays after the catch.

Chase Brown

Brown hasn’t been rumored much in NFL trade circles, but with Jonathan Taylor on the market, Brown would be a practical trade chip for the Bengals to acquire the 27-year-old star. An offense with Taylor, Joe Burrow, Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase is scary for any defense to line up against.

Brown has been a reliable producer for Cincinnati on the ground and catching passes. After a slow start in 2025, Brown had 124 carries for 599 rushing yards, 36 catches for 236 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns from Weeks 11 to 18.

While Brown is still a PPR fantasy asset with 36 catches through seven games in 2026, his rushing game has been a struggle. He’s only tallied 340 yards on 94 carries with a rushing touchdown. In recent weeks, Samaje Perine has relieved him on crucial snaps, showing Zac Taylor’s uncertainty at running back.

Throughout Zac Taylor’s tenure in Cincinnati, the running game efficiency hasn’t always been consistent. A change at the position could be a valid solution if the Bengals decide to make the 26-year-old Brown available in a trade.

My Under the Radar Names

Breece Hall

Hall is a very interesting name to monitor with Braelon Allen emerging as a potentially elite runner in the New York Jets' backfield. The team that misses out on Taylor should look to Hall to fill its need for an excellent running back. The Jets have found success with Allen and Isaiah Davis in the backfield, and moving Hall could further add to their already prolific stockpile of 2027 draft capital.

Jauan Jennings

The Vikings have very little identity on offense. Is Kyler Murray shoppable? Likely not. Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison don’t seem likely to be dealt. That leaves Jennings, who can be an imposing pass catcher for a team in need of reliability at a relatively lower price. He refused a trade back to San Francisco before Week 8.

Kenneth Gainwell & Sean Tucker

After such a significant rushing output in a Falcons-Buccaneers slopfest in Week 8, Gainwell and his 140 yards rushing showed he still has starting upside in an offense that needs a versatile running back. Bucky Irving has shown he can handle a bell-cow workload in Tampa Bay’s offense, resurfacing efficiency levels close to his impactful 2024 rookie season.

Sean Tucker has often been efficient with volume. He has 11 games in his career where he’s had six or more carries. Across those 11 games, Tucker has amassed 109 carries, 548 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. What this shows is quality running backs aren’t too difficult to find. Tucker is capable of filling a change-of-pace role between the tackles in a better situation.
