At Draft Nation, the MLB draft talk never ends. We will get you ready for the 2024 draft with player profiles and mock drafts so you can see who your favorite team may add to their roster.

Today’s Spotlight - Florida- First Basemen, Zac Caglianone

Name- Jac Caglianone

Pos- 1B

Team- Florida

HT/WT- 6’5” 250 lbs

Born- 2/9/2003

Home – Tampa, FL

Caglianone attended Plant High School in Florida. He was a four-year letter winner and one of the best players in the state during his high school career. He was a two time All-State and three-time All-Area honoree, and chose to join the Gators.

As a freshman, Jac played in 28 games at DH, batting .288 with 7 home runs and 27 RBI. He was named to the 2022 SEC All-Tournament Team and NCAA Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team.

Last season as a sophomore, he hit .323 and slugged .738, setting a school BBCOR era record with 33 home runs. He knocked in 90 RBI and got his first college action on the mound, posting a 4.34 ERA in 74.2 innings over 18 starts.

This season Caglianone has again put up solid numbers both as a pitcher and a hitter. On the mound he is 5-1 with a 4.39 ERA in 11 starts, with 63 strikeouts in 53.1 innings.

At the plate, the lefty is also continuing his torrid pace from last season. He is hitting .410 with 26 homers and 53 RBI for the Gators.

Strengths

  • Size
  • Contact skills
  • Power
  • Elite two-way player

Weaknesses

  • Expands the zone too often
  • Speed

Caglianone has great size at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds. He also possesses above average bat-to-ball skills, and some of the most raw power in the draft class. He is an elite college two way player with a fastball which sits around 95 mph, but has reached as high as 99 mph in games.

Caglianone's barrel control is undeniable, but his tendency to expand the zone is the only concern scouts have noted for Jac on the offensive side of things. He is also an average runner at best, and will likely end up as a first baseman or DH at the next level.

Jac Caglianone is one of the more recognizable names currently in college baseball, and has taken the NCAA by storm with his elite two way play. His future is unclear when it comes to which side he will be focusing on at the next level, but his well-rounded hitting ability and 40-home run upside may lead him to become a position player at first base or a DH.
