Name- Carlton (Bub) Carrington

Pos- Point Guard

Team- Pitt

HT/WT- 6’6”   190 lbs

Born- 7/21/2005

Home –  Baltimore, MD

Carrington was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. The third in his family with the same name, he was nicknamed "lil Bub" which was later shortened to just "Bub".

He attended Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, where he played basketball, baseball and football. The youngster scored over 2,000 points in his high school career and during his senior year helped lead Saint Frances to a 29-11 record. Carrington was named first-team All-BCL and to the BCL All-Tournament team and averaged more than 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

During his junior year of high school, Carrington committed to play college basketball for the Pittsburgh Panthers. He chose Pittsburgh over 8 other Division 1 offers. 247Sports ranked the high school senior as a four-star guard recruit and the 99the best recruit overall.

Bub Carrington had an excellent freshman season for the Panthers and by season's end was on the NBA's radar. He started all 33 games for Pitt and averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. When the season ended, Carrington said he planned on coming back to Pitt for his sophomore season. However, a couple of weeks later Carrington entered the NBA Draft.

Strengths

  • Playmaker
  • Shots off dribble
  • Rebounding

Bub Carrington is a skilled combo guard that has enough offensive skills to e considered a first rounder. He uses screens well and has the ability to shoot off the dribble. He is equally effective driving with his left or right hand, making it harder to defend him one-on-one. Carrington has above average length for his height and position and can be a solid rebounder in the NBA. He has shown excellent playmaking skills at times and does a fine job of facilitating the ball to his teammates.

Carrington is a a good athlete who could be a solid shut down defender if he wants to be. The mechanics in his shot are not the best but he is an adequate shooter and can take games over at times with his overall play.

Weaknesses

  • Defense
  • Shot selection
  • Streaky shooter
  • Lost without the ball

Though Bub Carrington can shoot, he is a "streaky" shooter who at times feels like he is all or nothing. He has a quirky shot and his decision making with it could be less than stellar at times. Carrington struggles when he does not have the ball. He looks lost at times when running sets without handling the ball. He will need to work on playing in a supporting role, especially if he is getting playing time as the shooting guard.

His defense can be lazy at times and he will need to focus his energy on the job at hand. Besides his defensive lapses, he will need to gain some strength to be able to transition to a bigger and faster league.

Final Analysis

Bub Carrington has enough overall game to be looked at late in the first or early 2nd round. He has to work on his overall game and approach. He will take shots that he shouldn't and will have defensive lapses that will drive his coach insane. But overall, he has enough skill set and is young enough for a team to take a chance on him late in round 1.
