Today’s Spotlight - Tristan da Silva, Power Forward, Colorado
Name- Tristan da Silva
Pos- Power Forward
Team- Colorado
HT/WT- 6’9” 220 lbs
Born- 5/15/2001
Home – Munich, Germany
Tistan da Silva was born and raised in Munich, Germany.
During high school, he played simultaneously with Schwabing, in Germany's Regionalliga, and IBA Muenchen (International Basketball Academy, Munich) in the NBBL. In 12 games with IBA Muenchen, da Silva led the team in coring at 16.9 points per game while shooting 53.2 percent. His shooting with Schwabing was even better at 58.3 percent while averaging 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in 16 games. He was set to play for Germany in the 2020 U20 FIBA World Chapionships, before that tournament was canceled.
da Silva speaks 5 languages (German, Portuguese, Spanish, French and English. With the choice of playing anywhere in the world, Da Silva decided to commit to Colorado University to play NCAA basketball.
Tristan da Silva has steadily improved each of his 4 years at Colorado. As a freshman, he played in 24 gamse in limited action and avearged 2.7 points per contest. As a sophomore, he started all 31 games and tallied 9.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Da Silva took his game to a new level during his junior and senior seasons and found himself on the NBA radar for the 2024 draft. This past season he averaged 16.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, both career highs.
Tristan da Silva is a talented offensive player who can beat opponents with an array of different moves. He is a cutter who does an excellent job of drawing contact. Da Siliva's perimeter game has continually gotten better and he is a weapon with his catch and shoot ability.
On defense, the German forward is a willing and effective defender. He is always in his opponents face to contest shots and does an efficient job at jumping passing lanes.
Da Silva excels in the half court game and has a very strong basketball IQ when it comes to screening and pick and rolls.
Da Silva is a versatile player but he must improve his ball handling skills. He has committed 202 turnovers compared to 197 assists in his career at Colorado. His poor dribbling at the NBA level is troublesome in a league where forwards are usually more advanced with the ball. He is athletic but he is not the fleetest of foot. His lack of speed could really get exposed against much quicker opponents. Da Silva is another prospect who needs to add muscle and weight to his 6'9" frame. He gets outmuscled at times and takes dumb fouls in frustration. At the NBA level that will only get worse.
It is hard not to watch Da Silva's game and not see Kyle Kuzma. They both play the same relentless defense and although Kuzma is not the fastest player on the court, he has learned to play a complete NBA game. This past season, Kuzma averaged 22.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. These are both on the high end of where Da Silva could be eventually. However, if Da Silva can add some weight and transition to the NBA, there is no reason he can't average 15+ points a game.
Tristan Da Silva is a four-year collegiate player so the maturity is at the top end of the class. However, his ceiling isn't quite as high as some of the other prospects. Da Silva should go top 20 and become part of a team's rotation in a year or two.
