What Have the NFC West Teams Done So Far in Free Agency

The San Francisco 49ers were able to defend their NFC West Championship by finishing 12-5 and holding off the 10-7 Los Angeles Rams who made a late push for the title. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy proved to the football world that his 2022 season was no fluke and helped San Francisco maintain a balanced offense throughout the campaign. The Seattle Seahawks finished above .500 at 9-8 but went 3-8 against teams with a winning record, costing them a playoff spot. And the Arizona Cardinals struggled throughout the season and are in the middle of a rebuild on both sides of the ball.

Arizona Cardinals

  • Acquired QB- Desmond Ridder from the Atlanta Falcons for WR- Rondale Moore.
  • Signed RB- DeeJay Dallas to a three-year contract.
  • Signed WR- Chris Moore to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed OL- Keith Ismael to a one-year contract.
  • Signed T- Jonah Williams to a two-year contract.
  • Re-signed G- Trystan Colon to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed G- Elijah Wilkinson to a one-year contract.
  • Signed C- Evan Brown to a one-year contract.
  • Signed DT- Justin Jones to a three-year contract.
  • Signed DT- Bilal Nicholls to a three-year contract.
  • Signed DT- Khyiris Tonga to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed LB- Krys Barnes to a one-year contract.
  • Signed LB- Mack Wilson to a three-year contract.
  • Signed CB- Sean Murphy-Bunting to a three-year contract.
  • Re-signed LS- Aaron Brewer to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed P- Blake Gilliken to a two-year contract.

The signing of corner Sean Murphy-Bunting will help to reduce the need to draft one on the first or second night of the selection process this year. The team added bodies in free agency to aid their defensive line, including veterans Bilal Nicholls and Khyiris Tonga. But the redbirds need wide receivers to help Kyler Murray and they are in position to select Marvin Harrison, Jr. out of Ohio State with their #4 pick of the draft. However, the team is sitting in a position to trade down if the right offer comes calling. They may instead target Washington’s Rome Odunze or LSU’s Mailk Nabers in the top ten in exchange for additional draft capital.

Los Angeles Rams

  • Signed QB- Jimmy Garoppolo to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed WR- Demarcus Robinson to a one-year contract.
  • Signed TE- Colby Parkinson to a three-year contract.
  • Re-signed G- Kevin Dotson to a three-year contract.
  • Signed G- Jonah Jackson to a three-year contract.
  • Signed DT- Larrell Murchison to a one-year contract.
  • Signed LB- Christian Rozeboom to a three-year contract.
  • Signed CB- Tre’Davious White to a one-year contract.
  • Signed CB- Darious Williams to a three-year contract.
  • Signed S- Kamren Curl to a two-year contract.
  • DL- Aaron Donald retired

The Rams were having a productive off-season but announced that future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald was retiring shortly after free agency opened. The Rams had done an excellent job of improving their defense up to that point with the signings of corners Tre’Davious White and Darious Williams and by tapping safety Kamren Curl to help solidify their secondary. With the unfillable gap that Donald leaves in the defensive interior, expect the Rams to perhaps target Byron Murphy from Texas in round one.

Los Angeles also re-signed guard Kevin Dotson and brought in veteran guard Jonah Jackson to play on the other side but the team still may need to find a center in this year’s draft.

San Francisco 49ers

  • Re-signed QB- Brandon Allen to a one-year contract.
  • Signed QB- Joshua Dobbs to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed WR- Chris Conley to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed G- Jon Feliciano to a one-year contract.
  • Signed T- Colton McKivitz to a one-year extension.
  • Signed Edge- Leonard Floyd to a two-year contract.
  • Signed Edge- Yetur Gross-Matos to a two-year contract.
  • Acquired DT- Maliek Collins from the Houston Texans for a 7th round pick
  • Signed DT- Jordan Elliott to a two-year contract.
  • Signed DL- Kevin Givens to a one-year contract.
  • Signed LB- De’Vondre Campbell to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed LB- Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to a one-year contract.
  • Signed CB- Isaac Yiadom to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed S- George Odum to a two-year contract.

San Francisco lost edge rusher Chase Young but was able to to replace him with Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos. Tackle Trent Williams is getting older and the Kansas City Chiefs were able to exploit the 49ers tackles in the Super Bowl. Look for San Francisco to keep adding to their offensive line during the draft.

Seattle Seahawks

  • Acquired QB- Sam Howell along with a 4th and a 6th round pick from Washington for a 3rd and a 5th round pick.
  • Sign TE- Pharaoh Brown to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed TE- Noah Fant to a two-year contract.
  • Signed T- George Fant to a one-year contract.
  • Signed C- Nick Harris to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed DE- Leonard Williams to a three-year contract.
  • Signed DT- Johnathan Hankins to a one-year contract.
  • Signed LB- Jerome Baker to a one-year contract.
  • Signed LB- Tyrel Dodson to a one-year contract.
  • Re-signed CB- Artie Burns to a one-year contract.
  • Signed CB- K’Von Wallace to a one-year contract.
  • Signed S- Rayshawn Jenkins to a two-year contract.

The acquisition of quarterback Sam Howell from the Washington Commanders gives the Seahawks options at the position with an aging Geno Smith. Signing linebackers Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker to replace the productive Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks is a substantial downgrade at the position and may lead the team to select a player in the middle of the draft to compete over time. Overall, Draft Nation expects Seattle to address their linebacking unit and their tackle position during the selection process.
