Cornelius led Archbishop Stepinac to back-to-back state championships and New York City High School Football League 3A league titles in 2017 and 2018. He lettered 3 years and was named the Catholic High School Football League AAA Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior in 2019. He was still not heavily recruited after all this success and committed to the University of Rhode Island.
He played very little in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but in 2021, he started all 11 games at right tackle for Rhode Island, playing a total of 690 snaps (670 were at right tackle, 18 at right guard and 2 at tight end).
Last season, Cornelius started all 11 games at right tackle and was named an All-Colonial Athletic Association first-team selection. He was the highest rated run blocker in the FCS with an elite rating of 91.0 given by PFF. At the end of his spectacular season, he entered the transfer portal and elected to transfer to Oregon.
This season, Cornelius has started all 14 games at right tackle and is widely considered a solid late round draft prospect in the 2024 class.
