McGregor attended Port Huron Northern High School, where he earned 4-star ratings from ESPN, rivals.com, and 247 Sports. He chose to join Michigan after high school.
As a freshman, McGregor did not see the field, and redshirted heading into his second year. In 2021, he played in nine games making just 5 tackles in his limited defensive and special teams snaps.
