J.T. Tuimoloau was a five-star recruit out of Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish, Washington. Tuimoloau also excelled at basketball and had a scholarship offer to play hoops at Oregon. He would eventually pick Ohio State over Washington, USC, and Oregon to play football.
Tuimoloau played in 11 games as a freshman for the Buckeyes and showed a glimpse of what he was capable of. He had 17 tackles and 2.5 sacks in a very limited role for Ohio State. As a sophomore, he played in 13 games and made some big plays for the Buckeyes defense, registering 3.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble. He impressed scouts with his coverage skills and showed extreme athleticism for a 270 pound edge rusher.
In 2023, Tuimoloau played in 12 games and tallied 34 tackles and 4 sacks for Ohio State. Even though he was projected to be a possible mid-round pick, Tuimoloua announced he was returning to school for the 2024 season.
