Goncalves was the consensus No. 1 offensive lineman prospect in the state of New York according to the scouting services. He played offensive tackle, tight end, and defensive end during his varsity career. He also was a four-year letterman at basketball. He was rated the No. 5 overall prospect in the state of New York by ESPN and declared to Pitt during his senior season.
After being redshirted as a freshman in 2019, Goncalves played in 9 games in 2020, starting the last 3 at left tackle. In the 2021 season, he played in 13 games, starting 5 contests at right tackle.
Last season, Goncalves began to capture the eyes of NFL scouts after starting all 13 games on the Pitt offensive line, 8 at right tackle and 5 at left tackle, and was selected All-ACC third team. In 2023, he started all of his games at left tackle after being named a team captain. He performed well and is being mentioned as a possible mid round selection.
