Matthew Jones

Jones was a 4-star recruit who played high school football at Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, New York. ESPN had him ranked as the No. 41 overall prospect in the country. He committed to Ohio State over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Michigan and Penn State. Jones redshirted in 2018 and in 2019, he was the backup to All Big-Ten guard Jonah Jackson. He finally started to see the field on a regular basis in the Covd-19 shortened season, playing in 8 games and making his first 3 starts. In 2021, he made 3 starts and played in 12 games for an Ohio State offense that was No. 1 in scoring and total yards. Last season, Jones took over the starting right guard position, starting 12 games and earned Second Team All-Big 10 honors. After the season, he announced he was going to use his extra year of eligibility to return to Ohio State. In 2023, he started 13 games and has steadily moved up draft boards with his solid play.
