Antwaun Powell-Ryland attended Indian River High School in Chesapeake, Virginia and was a defensive star on the football team. Rated a four-star prospect, he played in the 2020 Under Armour All-America Game and during his senior season, he committed to play football for the University of Florida.
In 2020, Powell-Ryland saw the field sparingly in two game and did not register a stat. However, in 2021, the sophomore played in 12 games and collected five tackles and 1.5 sacks for the Gators.
After playing linebacker at Florida, Powell-Ryland converted to a defensive end at Virginia Tech and became a starter his first year. He started 13 games and collected 40 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss and 9.5 sacks. He was named All-ACC second team for his performance. In 2024, Powell-Ryland took his game to an elite level and was named first-team All-ACC after finishing third in the nation with 16 sacks. At the end of the season, the redshirt senior announced he was entering the NFL Draft.
