Burke attended De La Salle High School in California. In his senior season, he batted .554 with six home runs, 32 RBIs and a .637 on-base percentage in just 24 games. He was ranked the 42nd best prospect in California by Perfect Game, and chose to join Tennessee following his impressive high school career.
As a freshman, Burke burst onto the scene with a slash line of .326/.467/.821 (average, on base %, slugging). He hit 14 home runs and 3 doubles, driving in 32 RBI in his 45 games played (22 starts). He was selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team and was named a Freshman All-American by Perfect Game. His 14 home runs tied a freshman season record for the Tennessee program.
Last season as a sophomore, Burke started 65 games for the Vols, but took a step backwards production wise. He slashed .280/.369/.527 while driving in 43 RBI on 16 home runs and 6 doubles.
This year is Burke's junior season with Tennessee. He is expected to return to form this season and climb back up the draft boards.
