Jalen Bridges was born in Fairmont, West Virginia and played basketball at Fairmont Senior High School. He helped his team win back-to-back Class AA state titles in his first two years. As a senior, he averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocks, leading his team to its fourth straight title game. He won the Bill Evans Award as the top high school player in the state of West Virginia. Bridges was a consensus four-star recruit and he eventually committed to West Virginia over offers from Miami, FLA, Indiana, Xavier and Alabama. Bridges redshirted in 2019-2020. As a freshman in 2020-2021, he averaged 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, earning Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors. Following the season, Bridges transferred to Baylor. In his first season at Baylor, Bridges averaged 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. After the season, he declared for the 2023 NBA draft before withdrawing to return to Baylor. This past season, Bridges started all 35 games for Baylor and averaged 12.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. After the season Bridges once again announced he was entering the NBA draft.
