Jalyx Hunt attended University High School in Orange City, Florida. After his high school career, he was not very highly recruited and chose to join Cornell.
He was at Cornell for three years, only playing two seasons of football due to Ivy League cancelling their 2020 season. After his third year on campus at Cornell, he transferred to Houston Christian University.
In his first season with HCU, he started 11 games and recorded 87 tackles including 11.5 TFL and 7 sacks. This performance had him on people's radar as a sleeper prospect, but Hunt returned to HCU for his fifth year.
This season for HCU, he played in 10 games, making 46 tackles including 9 TFL and 6.5 sacks.
