Malaki Starks attended Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Georgia and played on both sides of the ball. He was considered the No. 1 athlete in the 2022 class registering 81 career tackles and nine interceptions in his high school career on defense. On offense, he rushed for 2,384 yards and 36 touchdowns. He was ranked by ESPN as the No. 12 recruit in college football's class of 2022 and was a five-star prospect. In October 2021, he committed to play college football for Georgia.
As a freshman, Starks was Georgia's starting free safety, leading the defense in total snaps played, and finished second in tackles with 68. He also had two interceptions for the Bulldogs.
As a sophomore in 2023, Starks started all 14 games and collected 52 tackles, seven passes defended, and three interceptions. He was named a consensus All-American at the end of the season.
