Omarion Hampton attended Cleveland High School in Clayton, North Carolina. After rushing for 335 yards as a freshman, he had his best season as a sophomore in 2019, and one of the best in the nation, rushing for 2,402 yards and 35 touchdowns. As a junior, he ran for 685 yards, but missed a big chunk of time with an ankle injury. As a senior, he ran for 1,949 yards and 39 touchdowns. He was named the Gatorade North Carolina Football Player of the Year.
Ranked a four-star recruit, he committed to play football for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Hampton became the first true freshman to run for 100 yards in his debut at North Carolina, since Charlie Justice in 1946. He finished his freshman season rushing for 401 yards and six touchdowns.
Hampton was named first-team All-ACC after he ran for 1,504 yards and 15 touchdowns in his sophomore season in 2023. He was named to several All-America teams and was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award after this big season.
In 2024, Hampton started 12 games and led the ACC with 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns. After the regular season was completed, Hampton announced that he was declaring for the NFL Draft.
