Tracy attended Decatur High School in Indiana. He set all kinds of school records over his career and earned 3-star ratings from ESPN, 247 Sports, and rivals.com. He chose to join Iowa over offers from Louisville, Illinois, Boston College, Cincinnati, and Northwestern.
Tracy was not a big part of the rushing attack over his first 4 seasons with Iowa. He had just 16 rushes for 94 yards and 2 touchdowns over four seasons. However, he was a contributor in the passing game as he hauled in 36 receptions for 589 yards and 3 touchdowns as a sophomore, and hauled in 29 more receptions in his junior and senior seasons with the Hawkeyes.
Following the 2021 season, Tracy transferred to Purdue for his fifth year of college. He rushed 17 times for 138 yards, and had 28 receptions for 198 yards.
His sixth season in 2023 was his first as a workhorse back. He rushed 113 times for 716 yards and 8 touchdowns, and added 19 receptions for 132 yards.
