The 2024 quarterback class had six signal callers drafted in the first 12 picks, including picks 1-3. The 2025 class has some talent, but can it equal that of the 2024 class?. Here is an early look at the top 10 quarterbacks heading into the 20224-2025 season.
Last season: 3,941 yards 24 touchdowns 6 Interceptions
Beck has the most upside of any quarterback who returned to school in 2024. By no means is he a guarantee to be a top pick in 2025. Beck is a comfortable pocket passer who excels at timing patterns and getting the ball out quickly and his accuracy is uncanny. Beck does not panic when under pressure and his arm strength can make any throw at any time. His biggest weakness may be how long he holds the ball and will take unnecessary sacks when he could have checked down or threw the ball away.
Last season: 2,834 yards 23 touchdowns 6 interceptions
Milroe is an athletic quarterback who can beat you with his legs or arm. He is the prototypical quarterback being drafted in the NFL as of late. His explosive speed and competitiveness makes him tough to contain. He showed continued improvement last year with pump fakes and the deep ball. His mechanics and footwork will need to be improved this season. His decision making looked questionable at times last season. He is raw but his upside is unquestionable.
Last season: 3,230 yards 27 touchdowns 3- nterceptions
Sanders made some big improvements last season for the Buffaloes. He only threw three interceptions and his long ball was accurate and strong. Sanders is a physical and athletic quarterback who throws on the move effectively. He still needs to shore up his footwork and cut down on how many times he puts the ball on the ground. He has a tendency to get lackadaisical with the ball when leaving the pocket.
Last season: 3,479 yards 22 touchdowns 6 interceptions
Ewers had a breakout 2023 season for the Longhorns and looks to keep the momentum going up until the 2025 draft. He shows poise in the pocket and has the ability to make throws from different arm angles. He has the ability to extend plays and has a quick dart like release. Ewers has had some accuracy issues in the past and if he goes through a rough patch in 2024 he will have to worry about Arch Manning getting a chance to replace him.
Last season: 3,364 yards 23 touchdowns 5 interceptions
Jaxson Dart is a quarterback who has improved season to season, and is now considered a legitimate draft prospect. Dart has a strong arm and has the ability to put extra velocity on his passes to hit tight windows. When under pressure, he has an explosive burst and can pick up a chunk of yards when being chased. At times he is not patient enough and will give up on his initial read too quickly and he loses vision down field when he starts to move out of the pocket.
Last season: 979 yards 8 touchdowns 2 interceptions
Last year, Weigman suffered a foot injury in week four that ended his season. He was off to a stellar start before the injury and the Aggies have high hopes for him in 2024. Weigman was a two-sport star when he entered Texas A&M but eventually dropped baseball to concentrate on football. He has a strong arm and can make all NFL throws. At times his footwork can be out of whack and will affect his accuracy.
Last season: 2,631 yards 25 touchdowns 2 interceptions
Good news- Drew Allar only threw two interceptions in 2023. Bad news- he only averaged 6.8 yards per pass and never looked comfortable pushing the ball down the field. Allar has the elite size to play quarterback in the NFL, and has a high football IQ in how he reads defenses. Penn State signed Julian Fleming in the transfer portal out of Ohio State, and he should help give Allar a steady target on offense. He has the arm to hit all three levels, but needs to be able to pull the trigger earlier on and lead receivers out of their break.
Last season- LSU- 591 yards 4 touchdowns 1 interception
Nussmeier is still at the beginning stages of his development after primarily being a backup at LSU. In his limited time, he has shown the ability to see the whole field, and he has a quick release with pinpoint accuracy. His dad, Doug Nussmeier, was an NFL quarterback and is now the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. He needs to improve his feel for pressure in the pocket, which leads to fumbles. Scouts will watch to see how he progresses this season as a full-time starter.
Last season: 3,736 yards 25 touchdowns 7 interceptions
Ward transferred after two years as the starting quarterback at Washington State. He has the arm strength to speed up passes when needed and does an excellent job of hitting tight windows. He will be leading an athletic Hurricanes offense this season and will need to do a better job of making reads and getting rid of the ball. He takes too many unnecessary hits that lead to injury or turning the ball over.
Last season: 1,102 yards 3 touchdowns 3 interceptions
Leonard suffered a toe injury and missed significant time last season for the Blue Devils. He signed with Notre Dame and will take over for the departed Sam Hartman who left for the NFL. Leonard is a 6-foot-4 mobile quarterback who has an excellent football IQ. One thing he needs to work on is his throwing mechanics and he can be injury prone at times throwing the ball in crowded areas.
