The 2024 NHL Draft will be here before you know it, and Draft Nation will preview some of the prospects who will be probable first round picks. Draft Nation will review the strengths and weaknesses of each prospect, and where they should land in the NHL Draft.
Name- Cole Eiserman
Pos- LW
Team- Boston University
HT/WT- 5’11” 192 lbs
Born- 8/29/2006
Home – Newburyport, MA
When you get compared to Cole Caufield or Auston Matthews you must have an elite shot. Cole Eiserman does and he will be vying for the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft with teammate Macklin Celebrini. Playing for Shattuck-Saint Mary’s in the 2020-2021 season he put up huge numbers, tallying 97 goals and 57 assists for 154 points in only 50 games. Only two players, Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews, recorded more goals for Shattuck’s U18 team as a 15 year old.
Eiserman has played for Team USA’s U-17 and U-18 programs and scored 20 points in 7 games, ranking second in scoring at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Eiserman originally was committed to the University of Minnesota but later decommitted and elected to play hockey at Boston University. Eiserman is scheduled to join the Terriers in 2024-2025, after draft night.
Eiserman played for the U.S. National Development Team in 2023-2024 and was spectacular. The youngster scored 25 goals and 9 assists in 24 games for the U.S. squad.
Eiserman’s shot is sensational. In fact, he has everything a goal scorer in the NHL needs. He has a quick release, gets shots off accurately from at any angle and gets the puck through traffic and on net. His shot is hard and heavy, one that rarely sticks to a goalie but instead generates heavy rebounds. He can beat you with a wrist shot or a one-timer on the power play and as a lefty, he looks alot like future Hall of Famer, Alex Ovechkin on the powerplay (but just on the opposite side of the ice).
His skating ability is near-elite, carrying the puck quickly down the boards, and he plays the game at a high tempo. He has the ability to stop and go without losing speed or momentum and he knows to keep his head on a swivel, looking to make a play. He has a high hockey IQ, and knows how to find soft spots in the defense and the goaltender’s game.
Eiserman does not play as complete a game as Macklin Celebrini and struggles at times in his own end. He tends to sell out early in hopes of creating offense and is only an average playmaker. He’s more like Hall of Famer Brett Hull, usually looking to find his shot and feeding well off a playmaking center. He is not that big and to withstand the bumps and bruises of the NHL he will have to add some muscle and weight to his frame.
The comparison to Auston Matthews does make a lot of sense for Cole Eiserman. His release, power and accuracy are in a league of their own and he can score from anywhere on the ice. Eiserman on the powerplay will be a weapon at the NHL level and just like Matthews he should see 40+ goal seasons in his future.
Final Analysis
With the potential of going #2 overall, Draft Nation is not sure we will get to see Cole Eiserman play NCAA hockey. He projects to be a 40 goal scorer in the NHL and should hear his name right after Macklin Celebrini in the 2024 NHL Draft.
