After starting the season 8-1 the Pitt Panthers baseball team has lost 9 out of their past 12 to fall to 11-10.

This past weekend they took on a powerhouse Virginia squad that is ranked #14 in the nation. Pitt' s starting pitching struggled throughout the series losing games by the scores of 18-2, 10-4, and 8-2. The Panthers have now fallen to 1-8 in the ACC.

Virginia's shortstop Griff O'Ferrall is a top 30 prospect in the upcoming MLB Draft and was exceptional all series long with his glove and bat.

In the field he showed quick hands and turned a couple dazzling double plays that showed off his footwork as well. At the plate, O'Ferrall went 6-15 with 5 RBI's and squared up several balls. He also showed the ability to bunt and his foot speed was impressive. On the season, O'Ferrall is hitting .310 with 3 homers and 24 RBI. Last season he hit .396 for the Cavaliers.

Another possible 1st round pick is C/1B- Ethan Anderson. He is one of the top catching prospects coming out of the college ranks and he can also play a solid first base. Anderson went 4-14 in the series with an RBI for the Cavaliers. Behind the plate he does and effective job of blocking balls and has a quick release when throwing to second. On the season so far he is off to a slow start, hitting .297 with 1 homer and 12 RBI. He is coming off a season where he hit .375 with 15 homers and 66 RBI.

Pitt will now travel to Penn State to play one-game on March 26th, before playing 3 games at Virginia Tech.
