Fentrell Cypress II

Cypress played offense and defense at Northwestern High School in South Carolina where he recorded 31 tackles, 2 interceptions and 24 pass breakups during his senior season. After his sensational senior year, he was selected to play in the 2018 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. He also ran track and high school and won the regional title in the 100-meter dash. He was rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports and eventually committed to Virginia during his senior season. Cypress only played 2 games in 2019 and was redshirted by the Cavaliers. As a redshirt freshman in 2020, he only played in one of Virginia’s 10 games but in 2021 Cypress finally got his feet under him and played in 7 games and totaled 17 tackles and 1 interception. In 2022, Cypress started to open eyes in the scouting world while at Virginia. He started all 9 games he played in and not only collected 39 tackles but his 14 total pass breakups ranked 9th in the nation. He was named first-team All-ACC performer by PFF. After the season he entered the transfer portal and was considered the No. 4 prospect in the portal by 247Sports. He eventually elected to continue playing football at Florida State. This past season, Cypress collected 40 tackles, 1.5 TFL, and 8 passes defended in 14 starts.
