Burton was a four-star prospect at Frederick Douglass High School and the No. 1 prospect in Kentucky via Rivals and 247Sports. He was a finalist for the 2020 Sports Illustrated All-America Team after playing both offensive and defensive tackle. He committed to Kentucky over Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oregon.
Burton took a redshirt during his freshman year after only playing in three games. In 2022, he was selected to the All-Freshman SEC Team after starting all 13 games at left guard for Kentucky.
Jager Burton was moved to center before the 2023 season and started 12 games there for the Wildcats this year.
Burton announced he was coming back to Kentucy for the 2024 season.
