Jean-Baptiste attended high school at Bergen Catholic. In Jean-Baptiste's senior season he notched 88 tackles with 14.5 being for a loss, 11.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Coming out of high school, Jean-Baptiste was rated as a four star recruit. He chose Ohio State over offers from several other power 5 schools.
As a freshman at Ohio State, Jean-Baptiste saw the field in 7 games, making 14 tackles including 1.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks. He only played 4 games as a sophomore, making 6 tackles including 2.0 TFL and 1.0 sacks.
