Marquis Williams attended Cardinal Gibbons High School in Florida, lettering at track and field and listed as a top 100 prospect in Florida at the time of graduation.
He only played in 4 games in 2018 for Pitt, preserving his redshirt. Most of his action was on special teams, and he recorded one tackle. In 2019, Williams once again only played mostly on special teams and ended the season with 4 tackles, 3 of which came against UCF.
In 2020, Williams started 8 games at cornerback and played in 10 games, ending the season with 22 tackles and 2 interceptions, cementing himself as a starting cornerback for the Panthers. In 2021, Williams started all 14 games and compiled 34 tackles and had a huge interception in the ACC Championship game vs. Wake Forest.
In 2022, he started 12 games at cornerback, recording two interceptions (that were both pick sixes) and was named honorable mention All-ACC. After the season, Williams decided to come back for a 6th season, using his Covid season eligibility.
In 2023, Williams started 12 games and collected 26 tackles and 1 interception with 4 passes defended.
