Quinyon Mitchell was a three-time letter winner at Williston High School in Florida and starred on both sides of the ball, ending his high school career with 86 tackles, 8 interceptions, and 19 pass deflections on defense. He also ran for 983 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior, averaging 9.5 yards per carry. He finished high school as a 3-star recruit according to 247Sports and committed to Toledo University during his senior year.
Mitchell joined Toledo in the fall of 2020, and played in 6 games as a freshman. He tallied 7 tackles in his limited time for the Rockets, including
3 tackles in the season opener against Bowling Green.
Mitchell became a fixture in the starting lineup in 2021, starting 13 games and collecting 34 tackles, 8 passes defended, and 1 sack. His biggest game of the season came against Notre Dame where he accrued 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
In 2022. was the year Mitchell became a “must watch” prospect in the scouting circles. He was a playmaker in the secondary for Toledo, capable of being a game changer. He finished the season with 41 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 25 passes defended. He returned 2 of the interceptions for touchdowns and his 25 passes defended led the country. He also had 20 pass breakups which set a Toledo record for breakups in a season, breaking Samuel Womack’s record of 16 in 2021. His performance did not go unnoticed as Phil Steele and Pro Football Focus selected him as a second team All-American.
Mitchell has picked up where he left off last year and has been a shutdown cornerback for Toledo in 2023. He has started 13 games and has totaled 41 tackles, 1 interception and 18 passes defended. He is a top 10 cornerback in next year’s draft.
Mitchell had a very good showing at the Senior Bowl and has increased his draft stock substantially.
