Bazzell attended Rockwall-Heath High School in Texas. He finished his senior year batting .438 with five HRs and 36 RBIs, and was named the District 10-6A Player of the Year. He was the 2nd ranked catcher, and 11th overall prospect in the state of Texas. He chose to join Dallas Baptist following his high school career.
After his initial fall season with Dallas Baptist, Bazzell elected to transfer to Texas Tech where he would use his redshirt for his freshman season. Last season as a redshirt freshman, Bazzell put up an impressive slash line of .348/.452/.572 (average, on base %, slugging). He started all 63 games for the Red Raiders and was responsible for 62 RBI, hitting 24 doubles and 10 home runs.
This year is Bazzell's redshirt sophomore season. He is expected to continue his offensive tear and jump up on draft boards for this year.
