Ty Hamilton attended Pickerington Central High School in Ohio where he was a consensus three-star prospect. He played defensive tackle, defensive end and linebacker during his high school career. Ty is the younger brother of DeVon Hamilton, who was an All-Big Ten defensive lineman for the Buckeyes and third-round pick in 2020 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ty Hamilton finished his senior season with 118 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks and a forced fumble for the Division 1 state champions.During his senior season, he decided to commit to Ohio State.
In 2020, Hamilton played in just two games and did not record any stats in his true freshman season. As a sophomore, the youngster saw his playing time increase and he saw action in all 13 games, recording 12 tackles and two quarterback sacks. In 2022 he played in all 13 games and started the last five of the season finishing with 15 tackles, one tackle for a loss and 0.5 sacks. The senior defensive tackle started eight of his 13 games in 2023, totaling 38 tackles, five tackles for a loss and two sacks and was named honorable mention all-Big Ten Conference. After the 2023 season, Hamilton announced he was coming back to Columbus for one more season.
