The quarterback workouts at the 2026 NFL Combine delivered important clarity for teams searching for upside, durability, and pro-ready arm talent. While the Combine isn’t a live-contact evaluation, it confirms athletic traits, mechanical consistency, and throwing command in a structured environment.
Three signal-callers stood out in Indianapolis: Taylen Green (Arkansas), Drew Allar (Penn State), and Luke Altmyer (Illinois). Each helped himself in different ways, through athletic validation, health confirmation, or pure passing consistency.
Taylen Green, QB — Arkansas
Green delivered one of the most explosive quarterback performances in Combine history. His 4.37 forty-yard dash ranks as the second-fastest ever recorded by a quarterback, and he followed that up with elite explosion numbers including a 43½-inch vertical and 11-foot-2 broad jump.
Simply put, he jumped out of the gym.
The athletic profile is undeniable. Green’s size-speed-explosion combination makes him a legitimate dual-threat weapon at the next level. In movement drills, he looked smooth and comfortable throwing on the run, and his velocity stood out when driving the football outside the numbers.
However, Green remains a developmental prospect. His footwork and timing in rhythm-based concepts still need refinement, and he will likely benefit from one to two years in a pro-style system before competing for a starting role.
Evaluation: Green’s ceiling is extremely high because of his rare athletic tools. The Combine confirmed the physical traits; now it becomes about system fit and patience. He projects as a high-upside, early Day 2 selection with long-term starter potential.
Drew Allar, QB — Penn State
Allar entered Indianapolis with something to prove, primarily that he had fully recovered from his previous injury. He answered that emphatically.
Throughout the passing drills, Allar looked comfortable and confident. He paced through the script efficiently, showing no visible limitations. His ball placement was consistent, and he demonstrated the ability to make throws at all three levels including underneath timing routes, intermediate dig concepts, and deep boundary shots.
His arm strength remains one of his defining traits. The ball comes out cleanly and with velocity, particularly on outside-the-hash throws. More importantly, his footwork looked controlled and synchronized with his release, which evaluators wanted to see.
Evaluation: Allar may not have posted the headline athletic numbers of Green, but he delivered what NFL teams value most at quarterback: composure, arm talent, and confirmation of health. His performance likely solidified him as a strong Day 2 prospect with starter upside.
Luke Altmyer, QB — Illinois
Altmyer may not have generated as much buzz entering the week, but he quietly put together one of the most polished passing sessions among the group.
He showed consistent accuracy, particularly on intermediate routes and deep sideline throws. His ability to drive the football outside the hashmarks with timing and placement stood out. Altmyer also demonstrated good touch on layered throws, balancing velocity with trajectory when attacking downfield. His mechanics looked compact and repeatable, allowing him to deliver the ball on time throughout the scripted session.
Evaluation: Altmyer profiles as a steady developmental quarterback who can operate within structure. His Combine performance likely boosted him into the middle-round conversation, especially for teams prioritizing accuracy and system compatibility.
