Wells graduated from Highland Spring High School in Richmond, VA in 2019. He had a very successful high school career and was considered a 3-star recruit. He was named first team All-State as a senior, first team All-Conference as a junior and senior, and helped Highland Springs to 2 state championships in 2017 and 2018. He spent the fall of 2019 as a prep student at Fork Union Military and then committed to James Madison to play football.
During his freshman season at James Madison, “Juice” Wells played in all 8 games, making 4 starts during the 2020 FCS season that was played in spring of 2021 due to Covid. He led James Madison with 33 receptions for 603 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Wells had a huge sophomore season that has since sprung his career and draft stock. At James Madison, he set school records with 83 catches for 1250 yards. He also set the school record with 15 receiving touchdowns and was named a second team FCS All-American for his performance. Prior to the 2022 season, Wells entered the transfer portal and elected to play football at South Carolina, where he became a starter on day one.
In his first season as a Gamecock, Wells was named first team All-SEC by the SEC Coaches, PFF and Phil Steele. He was quarterback Spencer Rattler’s favorite target all season long and ended up hauling in 68 passes for 928 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Coming into the 2023 season, Wells was considered a top tier wide receiver with a mid-round grade. However, Wells suffered a lower body injury in camp and played sparingly in his 2nd season at South Carolina. In 3 games he had 3 catches for 37 yards and 1 touchdown. Wells has announced his plans to return to school next season.
