Cornelius Johnson attended Brunswick High School in Connecticut. Over his career, he caught 129 passes for 2,167 yards and 33 touchdowns. He was a 3-star prospect who was named the 2018-2019 Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut. He was selected to participate in the U.S. Army All-American Game. He committed to Michigan during his senior season.
Johnson appeared in 12 games as a freshman, playing in 12 games and hauling in 4 passes for 61 yards and 1 touchdown in earning his first varsity letter. He appeared in all 6 games of the Covid-19 shortened season, starting 3 games and caught 16 passes for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns.
In 2021, Johnson started all 14 games at wide receiver and also contributed on special teams, blocking 2 punts. He led the team in receptions with 39 and totaled 620 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last season, Johnson started all 14 games and snagged 32 receptions for 499 yards and a team leading 6 touchdown receptions.
In 2023, Johnson had 47 receptions for 604 yards and 1 touchdown catch in his 14 games for the Wolverines.
