Shelton attended Bloomingdale High School in Florida. He batted .405 with seven doubles, a triple and five home runs across 27 games as a junior. He also had 24 RBI, 22 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases in 2021. He was ranked the No. 2 shortstop and No. 13 player overall from the state of Florida. He chose to join Alabama following his high school career.
As a freshman with Alabama, Shelton started 59 games for the Tide, slashing .300/.419/.729 (average, on base %, slugging). He was responsible for 51 RBI, hitting 25 home runs and 10 doubles. He was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team, and was named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America, NCBWA, D1Baseball.com, and Collegiate Baseball News.
Following his astounding freshman campaign last year, Shelton transferred to Florida for his sophomore season in 2024. He will be a draft eligible true sophomore, and is expected to continue his success at the plate.
