Ager attended Foothill High School in California. He pitched and played first base, helping the Falcons win the East Bay Athletic League Championship as a senior. He chose to join UC Santa Barbara following his high school career.
As a freshman, Ager pitched out of the bullpen, making 24 appearances. He had a 3.55 ERA and made 5 saves, with 42 strikeouts and 23 walks in 37 innings of work. He held batters to a .197 opposing average, and earned an All-Big-West Freshman Team selection.
Last season as a sophomore, Ager took a starting role, pitching 15 games. He ended up with a 3.12 ERA with 115 strikeouts and just 26 walks in 92.1 innings. His opposing batting average was .209. This performance earned him All-Big West First Team and NCBWA Third Team All-American selections.
This season is Ager's junior year. He looks to continue his success and improve his game as he grows.
