Beam attended Blackman High School in Tennessee. He posted an 8-1 record with a 0.15 ERA, 99 strikeouts and a .045 opponent batting average as a sophomore in 2019. He was listed as the number 9 player in Tennessee by Perfect game, and chose to join the Volunteers following his high school career.
Beam made an immediate impact as a freshman, making 17 appearances and 16 starts. He held an impressive 2.72 ERA as a true freshman, striking out 62 batters and walking 21 in 76.0 innings. His opposing batting average was .186. He was selected as SEC Freshman of the Year, and earned All-SEC Freshman Team and All-SEC Second Team.
Beam followed up his impressive freshman campaign with 17 starts as a sophomore, posting a 3.63 ERA. He struck out 88 batters and walked 23 in 84.1 innings.
This year is Beam's junior season. If he returns to his freshman year form, and matches those types of numbers, he will have fringe first round potential come draft day.
